A New Pathway
Clark College’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education (BASTE) Program was developed in response to the increased need for bachelor-level preparation for early childhood teachers in Clark County. The program offers Kindergarten through eighth grade (Elementary) teacher certification with special education, early childhood special education, and bilingual teaching endorsement options.
The importance of quality early childhood education continues to be in the national spotlight. The BASTE program leads to teacher licensure in preschool through eighth grade with endorsements in early childhood education (ECE) and bilingual education available. The degree gives Clark College and other Clark County graduates with AAS degrees in early childhood education a seamless pathway to a baccalaureate degree in their community with the potential for teacher certification.
Employment
Graduates will complete the program with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to work in programs serving children representing the diverse population of Clark County. Each course will prepare candidates to work with children and families who are culturally, linguistically, and ability diverse.
By design, the BASTE program supports local school districts’ needs by preparing graduates who are certificated and endorsed in local shortage areas. The collaboration between the college and the school districts during student teacher residency ensures that graduates are prepared to work within Clark County school districts post-graduation.
